Training built on how your body was designed to move.
Functional Patterns is physics applied to the human body. We build competency in the most fundamental human movements, standing, walking, running and throwing, to give you the most practical movement variability.
Systems over symptoms.
Most treatment aims to address the pain, however pain is just a symptom and how you perceive it is influenced by multiple factors. By focusing on the noise of the pain, you can be missing important signals.
Those signals are often hiding in plain sight, in our movement and behaviours. The way your body has learned to move in everyday life, the habits you have picked up day to day that are no longer serving you: that is what Functional Patterns aims to address.

StandingWalkingRunningThrowing
These four functions form the basis of your biological blueprint. Every programme is built from them, and every exercise we prescribe ties back to how you perform them.
Standing
How you distribute weight and hold upright posture. The baseline everything else is built on.
Walking
Your gait cycle, the foundation of human movement. Small asymmetries here compound into pain.
Running
Dynamic loading that reveals compensations under stress, and what walking hides.
Throwing
Rotational power through the trunk and pelvis, from foot to hand.
Every movement starts here.
Every other motion you make stems from these four. Build competency in them and it carries into daily life, training and sport, which is why we treat them as the definition of functional training.
See how we assessWhy Functional Patterns works when nothing else has.
Your joints do not grind because of age. They grind because the muscles controlling them have stopped doing their job. We fix the muscles. The joints follow.
Joint relief
Address the root cause of stiffness and dysfunction, not just the symptoms.
Strength with purpose
Strength that improves how your body moves and looks.
Performance gains
Powerful, efficient movement in your walk, run and sport.
Structural balance
Restore mobility and alignment so your body stops working against itself.
What people ask first.
Functional Patterns Oakville is an officially licensed Functional Patterns facility at 61 Burnhamthorpe Road East.
Is this physiotherapy?
No. There is overlap in the problems people bring us, but this is movement training, not treatment. You are working, not being worked on.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. Everyone starts with a 90-minute posture and gait assessment.
How long before I feel a change?
It depends on your body, your history and how consistent you are between sessions. We re-film your gait regularly so progress is visible, not just felt.
Do I need to be fit already?
No. The assessment sets the starting point, and the first block is usually about control rather than load.
What should I bring?
Clothing you can move in, and anything you have already had done: imaging, reports, previous programmes.
Start with a posture and gait assessment.
Ninety minutes for you to understand your patterns, your pain and a path towards change.
